Hi {{first_name}} -
I am in many GLP1 Facebook groups just to keep tabs on the conversation around the meds, so I can help the community. In these groups, now that many have been on these meds for a while, I am seeing something interesting pop up.
Posts like "I lost 60 pounds, but I still have 10 more to go, I am not losing more! Help!”.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth.
That “last 10 pounds” is often not a realistic goal. It’s a psychological one.
It’s the weight you remember from college.
The weight on your driver’s license from 2005.
The weight your BMI chart once told you was “ideal.”
But bodies change. And your “goal weight” may not be what you think it should be because YOU are not the same as you were in college.
If you are above 30, you have less muscle mass than you did in your 20s (unless you have been putting in A LOT of effort for all those years to build or maintain it).
Hormones are different now; you might be in perimenopause or menopause. Cortisol might be higher due to the stress of being an adult.
Fat distribution is different. You won’t look the same at 130 pounds when you are 60 as you did at 130 pounds when you were 25.
But the bottom line is that a “healthy” weight your body can maintain at 25 is often very different from the weight it can maintain at 45 or 55.
And that’s not failure, and it DOES NOT mean the medication isn’t working or has stopped working.
That’s just physiology.
In the major GLP-1 trials, the average weight loss is around 15–20% of body weight. For someone who started at 250 pounds, this means an expected 50-pound loss.
That amount of loss dramatically reduces risk for:
• Type 2 diabetes
• Heart disease
• Fatty liver disease
• Sleep apnea
• Joint degeneration
These are HUGE wins and result in an enormous improvement in health. But for many, it doesn’t bring people to the weight they imagine in their head.
Because health and thinness are not the same thing.
The goal isn’t the smallest body you can force.
The goal is the weight your body can actually live with long-term because I KNOW you have been on 100s of diets before. And they didn’t last. These miraculous medications give you an opportunity to finally find:
A weight that supports energy.
A weight that supports muscle.
A weight that supports a life you can maintain.
Sometimes the hardest part of GLP-1 success is realizing:
You may already be at the healthiest weight for you, not the imagined goal in your head.
So instead of focusing on a number, I want you to look at a few things:
Muscle mass + bone density. Consider a DEXA scan. Set a goal to increase muscle mass.
Lab work: cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid, liver labs, and kidney function all improved or are even within normal range.
How do you feel? This matters more than anything. Are you full of energy? Living your best life? Sleeping well? Feeling like yourself?
These medications are a true miracle, helping people improve their health in ways that were just not possible before, but I am afraid many are still not satisfied. While some of this is human nature, I want you to stay focused on all the positives from the medication instead of dwelling on something that may never happen.
For me, diet culture and diet behaviors have taken away YEARS of my life, and I won’t let that happen again. Because while I may NEVER be a size 2, I also never have to count a calorie ever again. I never have to “start again” on Monday. GLP1 has given me peace around food and brain space to focus on what really matters, which is NOT how much I weigh.
Sponsors of the Week

Taking GLP-1 medications generally means you are eating less, and eating less makes it even more important to ensure you are making every bite count in order to help your body get what it needs.

As a dietitian, I talk to a lot of people on GLP-1s, and one of the most common things I hear is, “I’m eating less, but my digestion feels worse.”
Constipation, bloating, and irregularity are incredibly common — especially if you’re on GLP-1.
That’s why I recommend Metagenics UltraFlora Fiber, Prebiotic & Probiotic.
It’s not just adding more fiber; it’s supporting digestion in a way that actually works with your microbiome.
Traditional fibers just add bulk, which can make bloating worse when digestion is already slowed. This formula uses a gentle, soluble prebiotic fiber, paired with a clinically studied probiotic strain shown to support stool frequency and consistency, plus prebiotics that help feed beneficial gut bacteria.
The result is more comfortable, consistent regularity without harsh laxatives, added sugar, or artificial sweeteners.
If you’re on a GLP-1 (or not!) and struggling with digestion, Metagenics UltraFlora Fiber Pre + Probiotic helps support your gut when eating less makes things harder.
What’s Happening This Week
On the podcast this week, I interviewed eating disorder specialist Shawna Melboure about how few people are being screened for eating disorders before they are prescribed GLP1. This is a conversation that is vitally important, but is NOT part of the standard of care for GLP1.
I also talked to Sabina Hemmi of GLP Winner, a website that reviews GLP1 providers to help give you transparent pricing, real customer reviews, and an overview of services so you can pick the best provider for you. This is such a valuable resource, and I am so grateful Sabina was willing to come on to share her expertise.
Over on YouTube, I published a video on GLP1 for men and another about how to lose weight faster on GLP1 (hint: You gotta slow down to speed up).
Thank you so much for being here! See you next week!
