One of the strangest parts of my GLP-1 journey wasn’t the physical changes; it was the mental space that suddenly opened up. The amount of stress that was taken off my plate (literally) because it allowed me to not worry about my weight anymore. This was life-changing for me because I had never had this experience.

But on the flip side, this is actually what got me in trouble and led to muscle loss and underfueling…let’s talk about it.

Weight Loss Tip of the Week

One of the most surprising things I hear from people on GLP-1 and that I experienced myself is, isn’t about weight loss at all.

It’s the control you finally feel around food. I finally stopped thinking 24-7 about food and dieting. This is a relief I never thought possible, and why I think these meds are a true miracle.

When the food noise quiets, there’s relief, but it also allows you to forget about food. For me, at least initially, it meant not eating regularly and rolling on an iced coffee until 2 pm, when I started to feel my blood sugar actively dropping. This felt like power. Hunger controlled my life before this medication. And now I was finally in control.

But this was a mistake. This set me up for hair loss, muscle loss, and feeling jittery a lot.

GLP-1 changes appetite, digestion, and hunger cues, but it can lead to less-than-ideal changes in your nutritional status and health.

If you are (finally) feeling in control over food, this is great, but don’t let it go too far. Many of you have asked for “simple food rules”. Here is rule number one (that I also follow now):

Eat three times a day. No matter what.

This will NOT slow your weight loss. Your body needs food. Regularly. Even if it isn’t giving you the “normal” signals you are used to, the meds are numbing that. So your brain has to take over, and you just have to schedule eating. I eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner no matter how “not hungry” I might feel. Set a timer if you have to.

Next week, we will continue to talk more about WHAT to eat. If you want to know now, the GLP1 Hub membership offers support, including a weekly meal plan (in the $39/month plan), so you never have to guess. Join here.
